8 out of 12 Singer/Songwriter Series cover

Tara Jane O'Neil - Singer/Songwriter Series 7"
(Troubleman Unlimited)

Tara Jane is back with a 7" on Troubleman Records' singer/songwriter 7" series. The first song is a simple guitar part being played over a backwards guitar loop. It's really great. However, the rest of the single is not quite so good. The second song on the A side is a very repetitive, dissonant song that has a very unnatural feel because of the pretty vocals that don't fit the mood of the accompanying music. The B side is one song, "If your youth is green," and it has piano and bass so it seems more full that the A side. It's a nice song that is unassuming and doesn't really grab you from the start, but it has subtle melodies and a nice noisy guitar part towards the middle-end. The songs on this single are better than any of her output with the overly country Retsin or the overwrought The Sonora Pine but not as good as her recent full length.
