Sick Bees - My Pleasure
(Up)

Finally, a twee death metal band! Wait, who in hell asked for a twee death metal band? I don't think we really need a twee death metal band. Well, now we've got one in the Sick Bees.

Sick Bees is a female led punk trio that creates an eclectic mix of music, using clarinet and piano and other instruments and sounds to accent both their pop and punk/metal sides. Maybe they aren't really a death metal band per se, but they sure want to be. I decided to pick up this disc (used for cheap) after hearing the song "Tool Room" on the radio, not a great song, but funny and fun, in the least. The song comes off as a less abrasive, equally as humorous version of Karp with lyrics "Going down to the tool room, well I've got some building to do" over metal guitars and a plinky piano.

"Tool Room" isn't the only metal on the this album, but it's the only song that is all metal. Many other songs flirt with metal, starting off as pleasant, unassuming pop songs with simple but cute guitars and singing. Then all of a sudden some devil voice singing is added, and then the sound gets crunchier. Pretty weird and not exactly recommended listening, but I guess any album that contains two songs about "kitties" can't be all evil.

Sick Bees probably have a few good songs in them somewhere. Whether there are enough to fill an album is questionable. There certainly aren't enough on this album, their hypereclecticism making things a bit too uneven.
