Royal Trux - Pound for Pound
(Drag City)

Years ago I remember thinking that Royal Trux should really be a super cool band, so I would listen to and even buy their albums as they came out and discover that, no, they weren't as good as you would expect. A couple weeks later or so another Royal Trux record would come out, and I'd have the same problem again. It seems like this went on for 8 or 10 months before I learned my lesson and I never thought about Royal Trux again. Then the other day I was being dragged from record store to record store with a friend and feeling quite bored when I saw this new Royal Trux record sitting on a shelf. I felt those same old feelings. I tried to dismiss them and remember the lesson I'd learned, but I couldn't. I snuck up to the cash register, bought the CD, and put it in my bag before my friend could see. I didn't want to be embarrassed by how easily suckered I am. But guess what. This is a good album. It's very dirty and nasty sounding but oddly refreshing. Have the Royal Trux changed or have I changed? Will somebody who knows please tell me?
