Piano Magic - Amongst the Books an Angel 7" (Acetone)
Piano Magic's "Amongst the Books An Angel" 7" retreads some familiar territory, but some new territory also. The title track is similar to the tracks on the Low Birth Weight LP; it is a fairly straightforward song featuring Glen Johnson himself on vocals. At the climax of the song, however, we hear something a little new for Piano Magic, and that is some "rocking." It features a fairly straightforward rock beat, with loud, distorted guitars, which is unusual for Piano Magic. Another new element in the song is a somewhat Indian influenced guitar element underlying the rock climaxes. This song, while not my favorite, still added an interesting new element to Piano Magic. The b-side "c'est un mauveis presage lorsque ton amreste tombe" (or something close to that--it's difficult to read) features a more traditional Piano Magic track which includes some female, French singing over some pleasant, droney music. Not the best Piano Magic, but like most Piano Magic releases, well worth purchasing.
