Flying Saucer Attack/Main/White Winged Moth - Mort Aux Vaches
(Staalplaat)

This newest release from the Mort Aux Vaches series from Staalplaat records in Amsterdam is the best so far. The CD starts with some odd radio oscillations that lead into one of the simplest, most beautiful Flying Saucer Attack songs in recent memory. Dave Pierce plucks elegant wonder from an acoustic guitar as cars drive by and a radio emits distant warnings in the background. Upon first listen, I have to admit that I got chills.

Continuing on, the tracks by Main and White Winged Moth are somewhat indistinguishable from one another. This does not take away from them, however, because they flow wonderfully in-between the Flying Saucer Attack numbers that are the centerpieces on this release. If not for the songs by Flying Saucer Attack, this CD would be just another drone record, albeit a very good one. The prescence of Dave Pierce makes this CD what it is... great! If anyone felt betrayed by the dancier side of the last Flying Saucer Attack album, pick this CD up and have your faith instantly restored.
