Roy Montgomery/Chris Heaphy - True
(Kranky)

This recording was done by Roy Montgomery and Chris Heaphy for a play/film by Stuart McKenzie. Montgomery was provided with the script and composed a continuous soundscape, augmented by some improvisations with his partner in Dissolve, Chris Heaphy. Those are the facts behind the recording.

Here are the facts of my brain. I love this release. My relationship with Roy Montgomery has been hot and cold from the very start. I love Temple IV and Hash Jar Tempo; I don't care for Dissolve. I like it when he lets his guitar do the talking; I don't like when he sings. If anyone else out there feels like I do, get this cd.

The guitar playing is inspired, and the textures are vintage Montgomery (the stuff that I like, that is). I could really tell that this music was formed from some outside impetus. Montgomery stretches his comfort zone to create new moods and ominous clouds of guitar. This is really great rainy day music!
