The Molina & Roberts 7" is Jason Molina of Songs: Ohia, and Alasdair Roberts of
Appendix Out collaborating to record two traditional Scottish folk songs
(arranged by Nic Jones). This isn't the first time these two songwriters have
worked together though. They each wrote and recorded a song for a Songs: Ohia
/ Appendix Out split 7", and Alasdair Roberts appeared on Songs:Ohia's last
album, The Lioness,
with the two blokes from Arab Strap last year with spectacularly beautiful
results.
Both songs on this 7", "Ten Thousand Miles," and "The Green Mossy Banks of the
Lea," feature a prominently straightforward acoustic guitar being picked and
strummed, minimal percussion (tamborine etc...), and Molina and Roberts' easy
to recognize voices.
The results of their newest collaboration isn't quite as breathtaking as
Molina's The Lioness (not too surprising since Roberts and Molina aren't
working with there own material), but it is a nice treat for fans of both
wonderful songwriters.
