Mazarin - Watch It Happen (Victoria)
These guys sort of sound like a mix between Built To
Spill and a higher fidelity, less rock Guided by
Voices, but with a splash of drug affected drone.
This album seems to be all the buzz in indie/spacerock world.
I think that the main guy was/is in
Asuza Plane or something? So much for research on my
part. Anyway, I think that this CD is pretty good. The
first song "Chasing the Girl" is unbelievably great,
but the rest of the CD sounds like a comedown from
that song.
I really love this guy's voice in the context of the
poppy songs. When the slower stuff rolls around, I
just can't really get into the feel. Nothing really
draws me in as much as I would have liked. I think I'm
being too negative right now... Don't get me wrong, I
really like this album, and I payed for it myself; I
guess I just don't like it as much as I had hoped.
If you like really great harmonies, catchy/mopey
songs with a dash of Psychedelphonic space, definitely
pick this one up.
