12 out of 12 Masstransfer Issue 4 cover

Various Artists - Masstransfer Issue 4
(Masstransfer)

Quite a few magazines have been disappointing me lately and a select few cover exactly the music that I love. Masstransfer is the only zine that excites me from front to back. The writing is simple and not at all condescending. The featured artists, such as Flying Saucer Attack, Meisha, and Tristeza, are both interesting and underappreciated. There are no traces of the rampant indie rock commercialism found in such places as AP and Spin. The staff simply covers the music that they love! What a concept.

The free CD that comes with the issue is always an enormous treat and has in the past featured such artists as Füxa, Transona Five, and even Landing. This issue is no slouch. The CD has a decidedly more electronic feel this time with bands such as Pulseprogramming contributing tracks. The standout tracks for me come from Meisha and The Album Leaf. Meisha's track is a beautiful lullaby, complete with vocals! I hope that they do some more songs like this one because I think it is among the best things they have ever done. The Album Leaf song shows that Jimmy LaValle has gotten into his toys again with very nice results. This track makes me really excited for the new record.

Overall, Masstransfer continues to prove that genuine enthusiasm can conquer over all the jaded rock critics if you give it a chance!
