Her Space Holiday - Something Blue
(Brave Noise)

Her Space Holiday has had a busy year, and the coming year is even busier. This is the first is a good-sized line of releases slated for 2000. And, if this release is any indication, it'll be a good year. Her Space Holiday is a one man band. That one man is Marc Bianchi, who also runs AudioInformationPhenomena Records. Quite a resumé. He likes his pop melancholic, subdued, and with a good amount of synth here and there. Hence, all the songs on this EP are very nice, unassuming, straight-ahead pop. The first, "Something Old (floating)" is instrumental, while the other 3 have singing. Aside from the lyrics/singing in "Something Borrowed (fan club)," this is a very solid EP.

That song is about someone who remixed some songs of a band that he really loved and sent them off with the hopes that the people in the band would appreciate it. But, the guy never hears back from the band, which makes him sad. I don't have any concrete reasons why I dislike the lyrics or the way they're sung, they just kind of annoy me. But, vocals aside, it's a really nice song.

The crazier analog synth sounds in the last track "Something Blue (our first date)" make it my favorite of the CD. This is a good follow up to "The Astronauts are Sleeping," so I'm increasingly looking forward to future Her Space Holiday releases.
