Various Artists - Che Fest 1999
(Slowdance)

The Che Café is a venue for all ages shows in San Diego, California. I've never been there myself, but I've heard that it's pretty great. I guess they have peanut butter sandwiches and that sort of thing available, hence the "Café" part of their name. In 1999, they held a festival with 30 bands in 3 days. From what I've heard, it was pretty rushed, and the sets were short, but overall it was a great festival. This compilation has live songs recorded from a small handful of the bands that played. As would be expected from the eclectic San Diego scene, there is a great deal of variety. Some of the bands I like a lot, and some I don't. It has great songs from The Black Heart Procession, The Get Hustle, The Roots of Orchis, and Physics. GoGoGo Airheart, Oma Yang, and Sterling Silver sound interesting enough to maybe investigate further.

The Black Heart Procession song is "Blue Tears" from their album 2. The Get Hustle song is "Charles Bronson" from the Now We're All Gone LP. These two are by far my favorite songs on this CD, and while neither are as good as the official version, it's always nice to hear live versions of songs you love.

I wish I could have been there to see the whole festival, but it's nice to get this best of so I can hear a few things I really like, and skip over the stuff I don't like. If I had been there, I would have gotten the same amount of enjoyment out of the whole 3 days as I get from this compilation, but it would have been a lot more trouble.
