Backstreet Boys - Black & Blue
(Jive)

If you think *NSYNC's No Strings Attached is the album of 2000...well...think again!! The Backstreet Boys have done it again! Being a guy, you'd expect me to dislike this album without ever giving it a chance, but oh my God, the Backstreet Boys are just so amazing! Black & Blue is now the new hottest album of the year 2000, and I can come up with about a billion reasons why (but since this review is very limited, I can only give a few reasons).

Their first single from Black & Blue, "Shape of My Heart", is probably the hottest single out on the radio right now. It's already a major #1 hit. "Shape of My Heart" is a totally new direction for the band, but basically it sounds kind of like the song "I Want It That Way" (from their 1999 album, Millennium). Brian looks so hott in that video. I am so glad that he didn't die from that hole he had in his heart. I don't know if I would have been able to live otherwise. But then he and Kevin had to get married! No, not to each other. You have a filthy mind. I am so offended by that. They married girls, you know? But that is still sad, because it means they are off the market.

Songs like "The Call," "Get Yourself Another Boyfriend," and "Time" definitely have a different feel to them, which divert from their typical sound. These songs show a sense of maturity and improvement from their previous albums--I have been listening to their music so I should know. This album has a mix of everything and should appeal to everybody (not just teens as is widely misconceived!!). Those who think that this album is boring, bland, and the same old stuff definitely don't know how to appreciate good music and must be completely deaf when it comes to distinguishing between different styles, because, believe me, the Backstreet Boys have some new stuff on this album. I think Black & Blue will top their previous albums (even though I like them all).

On the new album, they even let Howie sing lead on "How Did I Fall in Love With You" (he has the highest voice, so usually he only sings backup, but now he finally gets his chance to lead)! Did you guys see Howie's new haircut? He grew it out again, but this time he isn't ponytailing it like he used to; he just lets it hang natural. It is so cute! But I think the best news of all is that Nick has once again cut his hair short. I don't like him so much when it is all floppy like on the "Larger Than Life" video. He looks so hott on "Shape of My Heart!" Brian is still my favorite though, although sometimes I cannot decide because they are all so talented.

Every time someone comes out with a new album, by the third time around, it sucks! However the Backstreet Boys just keep getting better and better. You can tell that their music has matured along with them, but they still have that Backstreet sound that everybody loves so much. Usually on a CD I only like about 3-4 songs, but the entire Black & Blue album is awesome. I recommend it to everyone! So, don't go around and start telling everybody how *NSYNC will win everything and will be the big album of the 2001 Grammy Awards! You never know (because you can't predict the future) who will win what at the Grammys. Maybe even (hopefully) Backstreet will once again rule the Billboard charts as being the artists with the most copies of an album ever sold in music history (and kick those sorry asses of *NSYNC right off the tops of the charts)!!! I think that this will be the album that once and for all makes them stand out from all of the other boy bands around and makes people realize that they are the best boy band in the world. So go out and buy Black & Blue by the Backstreet Boys--'cause they are back and here to stay whether you like it or not!!!
