Apples in Stereo - The Discovery of a World Inside the Moone
(Spin Art)

Even though I am not a regular fan of upbeat pop, the Apples in Stereo are one of the bands I purchase each and every release from. Ever since I happened upon Fun Trick Noisemaker I have been hooked on their wonderfully catchy songs, and the remarkably unique singing of Robert Schneider and Hilarie Sidney. So, needless to say, when I picked up my copy of The Discovery of a World Inside the Moone at my local record store, I was very excited to get home and peer into the surreal and psychedelic world of the Elephant Six.

The Apples in Stereo and the Elephant Six Recording Co. have, once again, released an extraordinary pop gem reminiscent of the best songs from the Beatles, the Beach Boys, and the Dukes of Stratosphear. On The Discovery of a World Inside, "Go," "The Rainbow," and "20 Cases Suggestive of...," sees the Apples' returning focus from their previous more psychedelic pop to a more straightforward energetic side. But, don't worry, the more vigorous moments are balanced out well by the downbeat beauty of "Stream Running Over," "What Happened Then," and the psychedelic "Submarine Dream."
