The Buried Stream cover

OF - The Buried Stream
(Jewelled Antler)

OF - The Quartz Pond
(Jewelled Antler)

Twilight drones and burnt umber melodies from Mr. Loren Chasse (Thuja, Blithe Sons, Child Readers, Coelecanth etc…), the one man magician behind OF. These two CDs (one a proper CD and the other a CD-R) are the embodiment of glowing embers, radiating heat waves from an hours old fire left to burn out in the woods. This is dream state music, chalked full of breathy harmonium drones, night insects, softly distorted strumming and the distant sound of water dropping in a damp cave. Sinew like bell tones and ringing bowls blend with full drum set assault on The Buried Stream’s “The Jut of Rock.” “Mud Vowels” a 13 min track towards the end methodically turns gentle percussion into a river bottom bed of rich tones and tape hiss. The second unnamed track on “Quartz Pond” charts a similar course, allowing the harmonium to stretch out into a slow burn over the course of its 20 min. Both CD’s are a rich collection of memories, dreams and faint walks along a heavily wooded path lit with distant moonlight.
