Thunderbirds are Now! - Doctor, Lawyer, Indian Chief
(Action Driver)

Years ago it was said that Brainiac was the future of music. Thunderbirds are Now! are here to prove the truth of that statement via their lethal concoction of herky jerky psycho rock and electronic tomfoolery. And believe me when I say that it is most welcome in this day of faux-spaz fashion posturing, what is needed more than some true, hardcore spaz?

Each and every one of the twelve tracks (clocking in at less than 24 minutes to give you an idea of the pace they are operating at) is crammed full of guitar shards, fuzzed out bass, relentless drums, and crazy keyboards (frequently in organ mode, like a cranked up Delta 72, or a Cupid Car Club that was actually insane). The effect is not so much to produce melodies, or riffs, or lixx, or any of that conventional rock and roll stuff, but more like an incredible forward thrust. The music grabs you by the collar and drags you behind its careening madness by sheer force of momentum. Tag team this with song titles like "when it comes to elements, hydrogen is titz" [sic] and you know that you are in for a good time. (Not to belabor a point, but the aforementioned track features an nice electronic swoop which is nearly identical to one featured on the Disneyland ride Space Mountain which is timed to a swooping motion of the ride car, thus, for those who have ridden the ride, creating a subliminal link between the music and actually careening through space. Nice.).

On the flipside, the incredible spaz factor paired with the unrelenting tempos creates a disc full of tracks that blend together into one big, long spaz, rather than a dozen discrete variations on spaz, which can be surprisingly exhausting, even at the mere length of your average sitcom (sans commercials). That said, if you think that you can take it, then, young turk, come and get yourself some.
