Park Avenue Music - For Your Home or Office (Clairecords)
We should all thank Clairecords for "limiting" this release to 700 copies. It would be a shame for any more than 700 people to have to sit through this CD EP, which is a draining, soul-sucking journey through syrupy vocals backed with uninteresting beats and atonal "scratching." Yup, it's that bad.
The centerpiece of Park Avenue Music are the vocals of Jennette Faith who does a fairly accurate representation of what would happen if Beth Gibbons and Bjork had a child (I've heard this is possible in Indianapolis, actually). The problem is that where those women know where to use restraint, Faith has no such tendencies. The singing throughout the EP is strangely effected and nerve rattling. It doesn't
help that on "How's Your 401K," she's singing about tax code. What is she thinking?
Musically, For Your Home or Office has a few moments of laid back bliss. The problem is that it is too "tricky." By that, I mean that there are a few too many Autechreisms thrown in without any sense of purpose. On multiple occasions, Faith's voice is sped up and slowed down. Although this may sound playful or cool, it actually just makes it seem as if Ms. Faith can't sing and is going off key every once in a while.
Bad ideas abound throughout the EP. If you're fans of really screwed up electronic pop that sounds annoying, this may be your cup of tea?
