Electric Turn to Me - s/t EP
(No Quarter)

The music's fine if nothing special, kinda synth-based hardcore with some proggy aspirations? A goth, electro-pissed Blondie? Regardless, just tight enough, just heavy enough, just dynamic enough to earn the first 31 secs of this thing two thumbs sideways, way sideways. At which point VOX kick in: marble-mouthed caterwauling from a dame whose voice has been put through enough fancy computers n' effects n' gadgets to launch one of them rockets, but nowhere near enough to make her listenable. Saw an aged woman who wrought similar screeches/croaks from her throat a few years ago, cept her gig was transvestite club circuit regular (I think?) and had the show-stopping "Somewhere Over the Fuckin Rainbow" as her signature tune. Better delivery, stronger songwriting, and more feeling on that one novelty train wreck than anything on Electric Turn to Me's tragic four-song mess. (Psst: Which isn't to say there's ZERO hope, cuz "Nightvision" has flashes of tuneful pop-pleasantness when the group drops the tuff-ass posturing for a measure or three. Mere moments before we're knee deep again in lines like "Wrack your brain/Then crack your brain/Then set your brain on fire" tho. Jeez Loueez!) Get some buddies and get some beers; you'll wince at this record when alone, laugh when with friends. True party album!
