Papa M/Unhome - split 7"
(Awkward Silence)

NOTE: PAPA M HAS A SINGLES COMPILATION SCHEDULED FOR 2002.

David Pajo's first release of 2002 is the A-side to the latest Awkward Silence single, pairing him awkwardly with the bass heavy post rock of hibernating, obscure British band Unhome. Pajo's song seems thrown together, a Bob Dylan cover of "Mama You Been on my Mind" with just piano and voice. Unlike his recent Whatever, Mortal LP, the rendition here makes no noticeable modifications; it is just a performance piece, and, frankly, Rod Stewart did a bit better job of making the song his own when he covered it in the 1970s. Covering Dylan does open up new areas for Pajo—he can't stick to redoing traditional folk songs like on his last album for too much longer—however this song just doesn't offer much.
