Tara Jane O'Neil & Daniel Littleton - Music for a Meteor Shower
(Tiger Style)

Music For a Meteor Shower is a collection of improvised music that Daniel Littleton (guitarist, singer from Ida), and Tara Jane O'Neil (Rodan, Retsin, Sonora Pine) recorded together, starting one night as they watched a meteor shower in NY. So, as you can imagine, the title is very fitting, and gives you impression of what to expect.

The music on Music For a Meteor Shower is unmistakably recognizable as coming from the hands of O'Neil and Littleton, but because of it's improvised nature, it has a very different feel from any records either has released in the past. Like O'Neil's solo records, or Littleton's songwriting in Ida, the music is mellow, beautiful, and thoughtfully done, with a mostly acoustic feel. However, those expecting this record to be a lot like Ida or O'Neil's solo releases might be fairly disappointed. Besides that fact that the album is all but instrumental, the songs, while still containing obvious structures, have more of a loose, and natural flow to them, contain a more textural and experimental element, and are, obviously, less song-oriented then their previous releases.

And while I would be lying if I didn't admit to missing Littleton's impassioned singing on the album, their music holds up perfectly well on it's own. Music For a Meteor Shower is a laidback, organic, and wonderfully relaxing record, and it's great to see both Littleton and O'Neil stretching and expanding their musical forms and styles.
