My own personal rule, which is silently enforced in my head, is that albums with more than sixteen songs on them are cause for trouble and bewilderment. There are rare examples of this rule being broken (Wire, most hip-hop, Olivia Tremor Control, Modest Mouse), but generally when an album has a lot of songs, I'm unintentionally turned off by it. If this means I'm fickle, I guess I'm fickle, but I can't help who I am.
Anyway, the reason I bring this up is because Dim Dim's debut full length, which might be a collection of EPs and singles, has 20 songs on it, some of which are under a minute. Which doesn't really fit with the type of musicwhen I think of electronic, I usually think of longer songsand I find that these go by too quickly, with no real sense of evolution. Add to this that Dim Dim's music can get kind of... well, annoying, and you've got an album that I don't really like.
Not to say that Kiwi isn't without its merits. Opener "Riri" is a tinkly piece on par with most of Boards of Canada's work; likewise, "Caramba" is a funky electro number worthy of its name. However, for me, most of the album floats by without any real substance. Maybe someone who doesn't object to an album with 20 one-minute songs would find this more enjoyable.
