The first installment in Dreams by Degrees' 10" series of the four seasons is Winter, as seen through the gauzy eyes of Utah's Coastal. Capturing the stark isolation of a late night snowstorm (or the peaceful morning after), the opening track, "Winter," shows Coastal to be a band akin to Low or American Analog Set, while other moments on the EP add a hint of Slowdive, et al. The swelling simplicity of "San Malo" (just piano and vocals) counters the hazy full-band instrumentation of both songs on the B-side, "Ashes" and "Primitive Heart." Warm songs for cold nights.
