Tristeza quickly became one of the most popular bands in indie rock
immediately after the release of their first album,
Spine and Sensory on Makoto Records a few years ago. Since then they
have released an EP, a few 7"s, and a follow up full length.
"Foreshadow" was released well before their first album as a 7". Having
gone through a few pressings, they've decided to
reissue it as a CD and throw an extra song on. The songs are a small step
back from those they've been releasing of late,
as they are some of their earliest. They hadn't discovered the smooth, hazy
sense of their last album when they recorded
these songs, so they sound quite a bit like those on their first album.
The guitars slide around each other, taking small turns and following short
tangents while the keyboard and bass aid the
crescendos of the drums, creating the dynamics. It's very mechanical, but
what a pretty machine. The extra song is the
original version of "Cinematography" which was rerecorded for Spine and
Sensory.
This is a nice bite-size EP, and a treat for anyone who preferred
Spine and Sensory to Dream Signals in Full Circles.
