Sybarite - Zealtronic Orange 7"

Sybarite is the current project of Xian Hawkins, who is perhaps best known with his collaboration with Simeon in the re-formed Silver Apples. This 7" features two tracks. The first, "Engaged," has a feel similar to Niun Niggung-era Mouse on Mars, with its near perfect combination of the organic and inorganic. It begins with a looped guitar strum which is later augmented with an electronic groove that is as deep as Mouse on Mars' but without the kitschiness. The second track "Without Nothing I'm You" is a similar mixture, but perhaps a less successful one. While it does retain the organic/inorganic mixture, the composition seems less complete, and lacks the fullness of the A side. As a whole, however, this is a very good addition to a very good series.
