The Still - Nectar
(Pulcec)

As a general rule, I think that originality can sometimes outweigh songcraft and technical proficiency. The Still make no attempt at originality, but their songcraft makes up for it... for the most part.

These guys obviously love the Velvet Underground. Worse things have happened. The Still attempt to recapture a bit of the late Sixties and succeed. Their songs positively glisten with bright chords and up front vocals. The drumming is creative and the basslines are playful and driving.

The Still are really great at what they do, but it's what they don't do that makes me want more. I think that if The Still were to rely a little less on their musical tradition and stake their own sonic claim, they could move from the shadows of their predecessors and become something really great! As it is now, they are only very good.
