Portal - Falling EP
(Roison)

Portal is an ethereal group who walk a fine line somewhere between distant soundscapes and warm shoegaze songwriting. They have released a handful of singles, including a song on the recently released Rocket Racer 7" Box Set, as well as a full length on Roisin Records.

The Falling EP consists of three remixes. The first, remixed by Portal, is of "Falling" which is a simple song guided by the angelic voice of Rachel Hughes. "Sometimes" is remixed by Schengen and starts off as a glacial dronescape. Heavily reverbed beats burst into the mix and form the wash into a structure that had been there all along but was subtle enough to sound abstract. "Tundra" is remixed by Wavewalkers and takes up the second side of the 7". The song is a thick collage of tones, which doesn't have a stand out part that demands the focus of the song. It's allowed room to develop and build, each chord change carrying more momentum than the last, until it slowly disintegrates.
