Pixies - Complete B-Sides (4AD)
It's about time! 4AD has finally gotten around to making all the great Pixies B-sides
available to those who were late to catch the boat or those who didn't have the money
to pay for import singles, and I think it's great. How sad my life would have been if I
had never heard the perfectly crafted "Bailey's Walk," the hyper-chaotic "Weird at
My School," or live and revamped versions of well-loved Pixies favorites like "Vamos,"
"In Heaven," "River Euphrates," and "Wave of Mutilation."
The Complete B-Sides CD comes with CD-Rom videos for "Here Comes Your Man" and "Allison,"
and even comes with great liner notes written by Frank Black himself, any fan of the band
will find the information and jokes a great read. Regarding "Manta Ray," Black explains,
"Did I mention that this is a B-Sides compilation? A not-so-classic quickly, and I
accept all the blame." And, even though Black might not be too proud of the song, even a
"not-so-classic" Pixies song is still a nice song worth having.
The Pixies were an amazing band that inspired thousands and can still inspire
thousands more if they are willing to listen. If you are a fan, rush out and buy this, if
you aren't familiar with the Pixies, go out and buy Surfer Rosa so that you can too can
become a fan... then hurray and go buy this CD it case it goes out of print.
