Zealectronic Pink 7" cover Zealectronic Blue 7" cover

Lilienthal - Zealectronic Pink 7"
(Zeal)

Lusine Icl - Zealectronic Blue 7"
(Zeal)

Both of these 7"s are part of the Zealectronic electronic 7" series. Zeal Records have previously brought us releases from Whip, Rothko, and Hopewell, but with this series they turn their focus on interesting electronic artists.

Lilienthal (a.k.a. Arrow Kleeman) combines smooth, almost clinical electronic textures and strong rhythms, informed by a wide variety of influences, into a composition that is simultaneously groovy and staid. The result is, not surprisingly, unique--and inhabits an area not unlike the more atmospheric elements of Mouse on Mars (as heard on their Glam LP).

Lusine Icl brings us the stronger of the two 7"s in the series. Jeff McIlwain (a.k.a. Lusine Icl), has a more stripped down and abrupt approach in comparison to Lilienthal (although quite similar in many other ways). The stuttering beats on "Dovetail" punctuate the low-lying bass and electronic gurgle, and eventually propel the song into another level. This ability to propel the song forward is what makes Lusine Icl stand out next to other experimental electronic artists who are content to let their compositions remain on one level.

Both 7"s in the series introduce artists who are without a doubt worth watching. These artists represent an ever growing contemporary electronic experimental scene that has and (if these 7"s are any indication) will continue to produce many interesting new sounds. The Zealectronic series seems to be a perfect place to look for the very best of these artists.
