Füxa/Ectogram - Füxa vs. Ectogram (Ochre)
I must admit that I've been disappointed by
Randall Nieman's recent output, more specifically his latest full length
Füxa 2000
where he visited Sonic Boom in England, leading him to a more digital,
less human sound.
I bought this cd in
hopes of redemption of this artist that was once so dear to me.
With the first song, "I Can Hear
the Old Sister Say (Hallaluah)," I got that redemption! The song
is a gem, filled with a lot of elements (such as
strummed guitar, playful basslines, and real drums)
that I though had been abandoned post-F2K. The second "song",
"48 Seconds of Jesus," is a total rip-off as it is
simply 48 seconds of some guy talking about Jesus. Come on
Randall, give me something extra! I paid $12.00 for
this split cd!
Ectogram's contribution is pleasant. They fill the
sonic canvas with all matter of electronics along with
nice vocals.
The bottom line is this:
it's great to hear Nieman bring the more human elements,
like strummed guitar, back to his sound in the post
Randallenium world.
However, only get this if you are willing to pay over
a dollar a minute for a 10 minute CD.
