Fly Pan Am - Sedatif en Frequences et Sillons (Constellation)
This latest EP from Fly Pan Am comes packaged in
the high quality paper packaging that you expect from
all Constellation releases. Unfortunatley, the music
found inside the packaging is also exactly what we've
come to expect from Constellation. Don?t get me
wrong--I really like the sound that has grown up
around Constellation's bands--it's just that this is not
one of the more impressive releases.
The EP begins with some sound washes and distant
drones that quickly develop into a more rock" theme
later on. None of this is uninteresting; in fact, the
first track is really quite good. It features a bass theme
and a steady beat accented by just the
right amount of guitar noise. The theme develops as
other instruments are added, just to disintegrate into
noise again and rebuild into an equally as interesting
theme.
The second track, however, is much less successful.
It features a steady rhythm accented by various noises
which also eventually distintegrates into noise, but
this time the theme is much lest interesting and the
compisition less poweful and borderline monotonous.
The final track features assorted sound washes and
drones accented occasionally by harsher sounds, the
effect of which is quite nice but nothing
particularly impressive. Overall the EP has some
great moments but many more mediocre moments. It's
not a failure by any means, but it's also not as great
a success as I've come to expect from other Fly Pan Am
and Constellation releases.
