Enemymine/Vaz - split 7"
(Thin the Herd)

Enemymine is Mike Kunka's (from godheadSilo) new band. Zak Sally, bassist for Low, joined him to record their first EP (s/t, on K Records), and the song for this split single. I've never heard Vaz before, but apparently, both of its members were in Hammerhead.

Vaz bring some big riffs, melodic dissonance, and an odd intensity to their half of this slab of rock and roll, with their song, "Blocked by Satellites."

The Enemymine song is a bit of a surprise. Zak Sally does the singing, and the song is a "rock" song, but it's not the usual brand of thick metal that Mike Kunka is so good at. Instead, it's angular and smart. It sounds pleasingly similar to Shellac or Unwound (not a surprise, as it was recorded in Vern's house by Vern and Justin--of Unwound). This is definitely one of Enemymine's more notable songs.
