Arco Flute Foundation - The Second Lesson in New Era Time: Exploring the Possibilities of New Wave Villains; and What of Boy?
(Cenotaph)

The musical journey of Michael Tamburo and Pete Spynda started five years ago began with a cryptic message from a prophet, Sayas Ser, that led to the formation of the band Meisha with friend Ken Camden. After documenting several hours of the beginning of their journey into the center of the drone, and therefore deep within their own minds, the prophet came back to them. He foresaw a tumultuous time where thoughts were outlawed and when simple cells were treated with the same respect as living men. He told them that in order to countinue their introspective journey, they would have to also learn to project their souls outward... they would have to learn to ROCK. Confused, the men asked if they could still bring along their dijiridoos. The prophet did not answer. The men assembled a group of local ruffians and taught them the prophet's message and convinced them to help continue this journey within by helping them project outwards. They added Matt McDowell on third guitar and stood with him in a triangle formation, guitars pointed diagonally to the sky, forming a pyramid-shape--a temple from which to project their souls onto the masses. Jeff Komara began playing drums in the background, acting like an ancient tribal beckoning call, calling out to the masses to come learn of the possible future restrictions on the mind and of freedom of thought. The masses began to gather so the three guitarists broke their pyramid-like formation and began to play loud rock music. The audience that gathered found the music familiar, sounding like what other recent musical prophets had played when they forecast an apocalypse centered on the downfall of the world's only military power. Sayas Ser's message was much more optimistic though. As this new group of musicians, naming themselves the Arco Flute Foundation, interpreted it, Sayas Ser's message was to maximize the power of the soul, to make individuals so powerful that the influence of other groups would not affect them. The audience was initially hesitant to this message. They did not see possibilities of the message of the music, because the vehicle for this message too closely matched previous false prophets. The Foundation then suddenly realized the next step in Sayas Ser's plan for their journey. Rob Dingman began playing his dijiridoo. The other men of the Foundation saw Dingman and quickly followed suit, creating ambience from their guitars and other instruments they had studied on their previous journeys within the drone. The audience was lost and confused initially, not expecting a swirl of tones to errupt out of the volcanic rock in front of them. The band then became more confident in their interpretation of Sayas Ser's message and plan for their journey. They explored deeper and deeper drones, losing all form and centering in on fluctuations of tone and pure ambient sounds. They mixed these explorations with loud but beautiful explosions of rock guitar. As the Foundation continued their performance for the assembled audience, both the audience and the band felt a very cathartic release. The band felt much more confident of their place in their musical journey, and the audience felt much more awake and alive. As the performance ended, the band played a quiet lullaby as Dingman made an odd but comforting sound from his dijiridoo. The audience may not have realized the full meaning of Sayas Ser's message, but the performance awakened their senses to the point where their souls had been strengthened. This LP, The Second Lesson in New Era Time, is a document of the band's initial realization of the beauty of the next step in their journey.
