Early morning, she wakes up, knock, knock, knock on the door. It's time
for makeup, perfect smile. It's you they're all waiting for... that is,
as long as you bring them this brand new issue of fakejazz with two
great new interviews and reviews of three or four of the most highly
anticipated records of the year. Not only that, Lucky, but three
equally as lucky readers will win brand new luxury compact discs
by Tristeza, the Letter E, and Mark Kozelek.
Our first interview for this issue is with Brian McMahan who was in some band called Slint (don't
ask me because I've never heard of them but Dave Christensen, who did the
interview, said they used to be pretty popular back in the day) and The For
Carnation. This interview runs the bases fron how McMahan has reacted to
the post-breakup popularity of Slint (again, don't ask me, I am just going on
what I was told) to how exactly they got Kim Deal to sing on that one The For
Carnation song. Above all, though, it shows the best way to get rockers to
answer questions is to first make them eat with their hands.
Our second interview for this issue is with Sonna, a great band on Temporary Residence fresh
off the heels of recording their full length debut with Steve Albini at
Electrical Audio. Both These Windows are Pistons and The Eventual Bow EPs have gotten stellar reviews on our site,
so if you haven't heard them yet, get to it. Based on this interview, it
looks like the best (even better than before?) is still yet to come, as the
full length is said to be the "definitive" portrait of the band's sound. We
can't wait.
The friendly folks at Holiday
Matinee were kind enough to offer to sponsor a
contest on our site.
We told them, "For sure, but we only want to give away the good stuff."
They responded by giving us three CDs from the best three artists
they have ever worked with: Mark Kozelek's (of Red House Painters)
Rock 'n' Roll
Singer, The Letter E's (featuring Curtis Harvey and Sean Meadows)
new full length No. 5ive Long Player, and Tristeza's (features members of
The Album Leaf) Dream
Signals in Full Circles. All you have to do is enter your name and email
address, tell us the latest album that kicked your ass, and you could have
a free CD in your mailbox.
Also new to our site is a tool for making reading fakejazz
easier. At the top right of this page and at the bottom of every review there
is a green button for the issue remote control. Using the remote control,
you can skim through the pages of fakejazz like you would any
paper magazine, clicking left and right on the remote to switch to the previous
and next pages in the issue. This fully eliminates the need to scan and select
items from a table of contents, as you would in every other web magazine.
Only the current issue's pages are accessed through the remote, so
if you are reading most of our pages anyway, it should
make things a bit easier.
Let us know if you have any comments, either
send us an email or leave a note on our message board. We heart feedback.
Look for our next issue on October 28th. Thanks for stopping by.
