If you've been reading this space the past few months, you know already that first I was about to get married and then, whoop-tee-doo, I got married. To complete the wedding article triumvirate, I thought I might share some photos from my honeymoom. Being superromantic couple supreme, we decided to go on a kayaking and hiking cruise in Alaska and spend most of the time either muddy or tired or both. Alaska is an amazing place though. Mountains dropping into the ocean, huge walls of ice, whales feeding on gallons of fish at a time, colonies of sea lions grunting and nipping at each other, etc., etc. One bad thing, though, now that the trip is over, is it's so hard to convey the awesomeness of what we saw. Sure, there are photographs, but scale can be so easily lost. For example, here is one of our best whale photos (believe it or not):
See it? It is right there near the horizon, slightly right from center... no a little more... okay, you don't see it. Here it is cropped:

Wait a second. That's just a fin. Who the hell cares enough about my feelings to humor me for 15 minutes while I show them photos of fins? Pretty much
no one, I guess. I mean, sure, if you were there, you would have seen the whales flapping their fins about, breaching the surface with mouths open to gulp a schoolful of fish, and generally acting like its Mardi Gras: Whales Gone Wild, Alaska Edition. But you can't really get that from a photo.
