The album of the year for 2003 is
Explosions in the Sky's
The Earth is Not a Cold Dead Place
The Texans got 12.4% of the vote, a narrow margin of victory over Ontarian Manitoba's Up In Flames which got 11.9% of the vote. The full results are also available, if you're interested in where your favorite ended up.
Thanks to everyone for their comments on THE LIST. You all did a good
job of picking out the glaring omissions. Thanks to Jonathon Rogers for saying
"Come On! No Sufjan Stevens? I know you guys probably think it's sentimental bullshit, but it's the sentimental bullshit album of the year!" How true. Thanks to the guy who complained we didn't nominate Fountains of Wayne. That
was great. Thanks to everyone who complained that we didn't eliminate OutKast,
like J.T. Ramsay who said "But I gotta say that allowing Outkast to pass through the indie/avant gauntlet reeks of a Pitchforkmedia knee-jerk silliness" and
Bill Preest who said "'Hey Ya' indeed."
But enough about 2003 though, because we are all about 2004, and we've got over
60 new reviews this issue to show for it.
