Well you came and you gave without taking, and I sent you away, oh Mandy, and
you kissed me and stopped me from shaking, and I need you today, oh Mandy. Yes,
big issue 12 of fakejazz.com is dedicated to everyone's favorite
Mandy, Mandy of Temptation Island.
This buff freckle-covered orange-haired vixen has ruled
our Wednesday nights for the past five weeks, whether she is contorting her hair into styles
Bjork would not touch, picking a new guy to be "the only guy on the island I
would ever want to date in real life," taking body shots
off one of her "dates", or calling her boyfriend a whore; she is the ultimate... ultimate
what, I am not sure, but she is the ultimate something.
Word is that Mandy currently is living in Atlanta fronting a rock
band; if anyone knows of Mandy or her band, please get us her demo!! There
could be no higher purpose for this magazine than to in some small way
help Mandy continue on her quest of prostituting herself for fame.
While we have ended up watching our Temptation Island tapes about 4 hours each
day, we did find some time to put together an issue. There's two interviews,
a few columns, and over 30 reviews.
Our first interview is with one of the best and most influential rock musicians
of the 1990s, Ash
Bowie of Polvo. During his time with Polvo, Bowie
used his four-track to record a few solo sessions of playful, experimental
songs. Recently, those recordings were released under the name Libraness,
and our interview goes in depth on how and why those recordings were made
and what Bowie plans on doing under the name Libraness in the future.
Our other interview is with one our current favorite artists, Jon Attwood,
who records under the name
Yellow 6.
Attwood's music combines the atmospherics of drone with the rhythm of
guitar-based post rock, like the best parts of Windy & Carl combined
with the best parts of Aerial M. The interview covers how this one man
band writes, records, and, in general, performs his magic.
This issue also sees the start of a new series of articles for
fakejazz devoted to great bands of yore who seem to have
fallen off the radar screen since their demise. The series is named
Cooler Than
You, as in, you may have never heard of these bands,
but they are definitely cooler than you. The first band covered in the
series is the seminal 1980s New Zealand band This
Kind of Punishment.
Let us know if you have any comments, either
send us an email or leave a note on our message board. We heart feedback. Also, if you are reading our site and are in a band, own or
work for a label, or are somehow related to the creation of music, please
send us something
to review. We are eager to hear new sounds; if you are
part of the club, we will definitely review your music.
Look for our next issue on March 2nd.
Thanks for gracing us with your presence.
