The last five minutes of this episode were the best of the season so far, as finally the story is continued, even if just a little bit. Granted, the episode threw us a lot of hanging curveballs. Luke and Lorelai have another "we're not in wedded bliss yet" argument, as Luke fears Lorelai's proposition he go camping instead of attending Miss Patty's recital was more due to not wanting him (bored and miserable) at the recital than wanting him to enjoy a nice camping trip. Somehow there's a fire at the Inn which causes Richard to make an appearance early in the episode, reminding us that, oh yeah, he didn't believe Lorelai when she told them the real reasons Rorelai left yale. I wonder if that will come into play later in the episode. So, yeah, it does. Rorelai's participation in the DAR leads to her taking over planning of a fundraiser/party, and in true Rory fashion, she makes all those slacker DAR party planners look like tired old hags by planning the best 40s themed party since the 40s. The fundraiser, of course, gives us an opportunity for the elder Huntzcrappers to come face-to-face with Richard and Emily (and not to mention Rorelai) for the first time since Logan's dad totally broke it down for Rory on why she is too much of a girl to work at a newspaper. This encounter gave the episode its five great minutes. While Emily's dismantling of Logan's permadrunk mother was grand, my favorite part was the great Edward Hermann, fuming mad, clinching his fist, about to explode. So great.
