There's a reason why Tiger ran away from the Brady Bunch, and it's not because Jan was allergic. It's because we might as well see a Brady talk to the ottoman as see them talk to a big bushy, expressionless, motionless dog. But now that exact same dog is Lorelai's new best friend, filling the void left by Rorelai. At least Tiger had his moment in the sun, ruining the wedding while chasing the cat. All this Tiger can do is hide, locking himself in the car, conveniently done off camera. As if Tiger's introduction wasn't numbing enough, Luke's brother-in-law TJ is now a main character, back to "take over" construction on Lorelai's house and start his contracting career to the detriment of L & L. There are plenty of one dimensional characters in the Gilmore world, and I'd probably rather learn more about any one of them than have annoying TJ act like a big giddy moron. You know nothing's happening this episode when they show TJ building a shelf for five minutes at the beginning, and then talk about TJ building the shelf for another five minutes later on. While Lorelai and Rorelai are in the middle of their biggest fight ever, that fight will not manifest itself in interesting dialogue or adding depth to the characters, but rather distance and extended moping. The camera focuses on Rorelai moping around the house with nothing to do, in a swimsuit but too lazy to take a swim, then features her speaking in forcefully broken Spanish to the housekeeper, much to Emily's chagrin. Even when Rorelai goes back to Stars Hollow to approach Luke as a go between, nobody has much to say. Of course, there is no doubt the conflict will be resolved, and done so in time for the wedding, which doesn't make it much of a conflict at all. And you can bet that once Rorelai is there, in her bridesmaid dress, some cat will show up, and that plot device will chase it away, far far away from the Gilmore Girls.
