Albums Thuja - Pine Cone Temples (Strange Attractors) website

SAAH3233lg.jpgRain on wood, broken amps, bird songs, organs, tapes, street noise, bowed bicycle wheels, rocks, twigs, bells and occasionally what sounds like guitars flutes and reeds played with quiet abandon all make up small parts in the wonderfully mysterious micro world of Thuja. Pine Cone Temples is there 4th, or maybe 5th full length CD, and it easily stretches out over two discs. A lot of the same group mind improvisation is still present, although at times done with a lot more murk, brown noise and general fucked-up-ness then previous cds. But, all the better, 'cus they sound more relaxed and settled in then ever. Always adept at traversing the line between sweet subtlel acoustic melodies and imploding cave man noise, Thuja weave some serious magic on these discs. The opening track on disc 2 (Im guessing disc 2...either way its the one with 2 tracks) is just fantastic. Speaker hum and what sounds like an electric drill going mad bring the pulsing guitar rhythm of the opening to a ecstatic climax. The almost 30 minuet following track is equally as mesmerizing, complete with kinetic flute loops and gentle bell plucking it ebbs and flows into a tidal wave of water noise that bursts the seems towards the end. Closing much as it began, like a nap in the Redwoods of Northern California during a spring rain. Thuja again walk barefoot on the ground and conjure up some of the most beautiful vibrations of sound from the earth.
