Wooden Wand and the Vanishing Voice are impressive in their ability to consistenly excel as both a noisy and spontaneous collective and also as intimate, small-scale folkies. Short, freaky and directly to the fucking point, their latest EP, is an extremely potent twenty minutes. "Supplication Jam (for Brother Greh)" starts with a series of flutes and whistles, flows directly into a rigorous guitar and percussion movement and then moves you towards a surprisingly calming conclusion focused on a psuedo vocoder. Despite the surprisingly chaotic appearance of this much action going on in such a short timespan, every part of this improvised performance makes sense within the framework of the moment as well as that of the assembled whole.
