Albums The Postal Service - We Will Become Silhouettes (Subpop) website

Postal Service EPOK, so unless you've been living in exile for the past couple years, you've probably already developed your opinion of The Postal Service (their album is Sub Pop's biggest seller since Nirvana!).

Rarely is a single actually worth the effort (except for collectors and fans with OCD - me). But, The Postal Service have been pretty dependable in making their singles better than average. Their stellar first release was the teaser single "Such Great Heights," which was intended to drum up interest for the forthcoming album. The inclusion of The Shins and Iron & Wine's covers made it in some ways much better than the album.

While the "We Will Become Silhouettes" single is good, it doesn't compare to that first single. The new song, "Be Still My Heart" is a little hokey and overly dramatic, but if that's a real problem, The Postal Service aren't for you anyway. The real draw for this single is the Styrofoam treatment of the track "Nothing Better" featuring guest vocalist Julie Doiron. It adds a depth and sense of dramatic dynamic sorely missing in the original. Generally, I view remixes as completely worthless. In this case I must admit it's far superior to the original.

So, if you're already a fan, I'd recommend this since it not only has a brand new song, but a far superior version of an old song (not to mention another remix that is ok, but not really worth going on about). If you're not a fan, don't bother. There's nothing to see here, move along, move along.

Hi Dick. I thought the same thing you did. It is pretty nice, but nothing really special. It is worth picking up for fans. Good call. We seem to think a like sometimes, we should be friends.
