Several very satisfying threads ran through this episode. Luke's sour mood over the breakup had him yelling at everyone and, more importantly, so distracted from his cooking that he burned everything. Most people ran (if they weren't tossed out first), but of course Kirk reveled in the Cajun flavoring! Also, the friction between Lorelai and Emily continued. Lorelai repeatedly hung up on Emily, not saying a word. When Richard calls, Lorelai chats cheerfully, but when the phone is handed over... click! The fight carried over to Rory's relationship with Emily as well when she visited (sans Lorelai) for Friday dinner. It was great to see Emily get what she deserved. Emily is very aware of how tenuous her relationship with Lorelai is now that she no longer has the Chilton tuition-based contractual obligation (recall the episode when Richard's mother offers to pay Rory's tuition), so at episode's end she visits Luke to apologize and officially stay out of the way. While the Luke and Lorelai reconciliation doesn't feel rushed, Emily's behavior seems odd. It's obvious now she should have known it was too big of a risk to egg on Christopher. It will be interesting to see if Emily's concession will in any way expedite Lorelai showing up again on Friday nights.
