: Thanks for asking. I imagine that you probably went to see the movie with a pretty girl, and then later maybe you kissed and things and thought about Coyote Ugly, and maybe even made sweet love.
Nice guess, but wrong! Instead I decided to think of the movie itself as my date. I decided to go to the very first available showing Friday morning. Sadly I told some other people about this plan, and I ended up being cajoled into letting to other friend's of mine come along. I figured it wouldn't make that much diffence, there were going to be other people in the theater anyway, and if they couldn't stop me from developing a personal relationship with the film, than why should Travis and Jake, two close friends who I know care about me and my feelings, especially in matters of love-making.
Well, what a mistake that turned out to be. They apparently are not as sensitive as I thought. All through the movie I could over hear them making comments like "fuck off, Jerry Bruckheimer," and eventually, one of them unceremoniously walked out of the theater, clutching his side as if in great pain. This was very distracting especially since it came at a very climactic and important turning point in the movie - when Violet's father (played by John Goodman) walked into the bar and saw the girls shooting each other with water, swinging from the rafters and gyrating in a sexy manner. Later, when he returned, whenever any of the girls made any physical movement with any part of their body he would make a sound like "whooosh". Apparently he didn't approve of the fact that the girls of Coyote Ugly could spin bottles so fast that the bottles, completely of their own volition, made a sound like "whooosh". Jake, didn't you understand that the girls were under a lot of pressure to pour drinks quickly? They couldn't help it if the bottles "whooosh'ed".
Anyway, anyone who's ever dated someone who their friends or family don't fully approve of knows how I'm feeling now. My love for Coyote Ugly is strong, and I think it will endure. I'm just either going to have to get my friends to accept and understand the movie, or I'm going to have to find new friends.
